Subject: "After the Deluge" - Egan review of Zeitoun
In regard to Timothy Egan's review of Zeitoun, by Dave Eggers:
On behalf of the city of New Orleans, I invite Mr. Egan to pay us a visit. It doesn't have to be a long trip; a weekend would suffice. I expect that will be enough time for Mr. Egan to revise his assessment of New Orleans as a "once-great city." Given the generous coverage the Times provides of post-Katrina New Orleans, it seems that Mr. Egan should be aware of both our continued struggles and our return to vibrancy. I extend this invitation to anyone who mistakenly believes that New Orleans no longer exists or that we are living some Dickensian nightmare. Four years after Katrina, life goes on in the Big Easy; poor Mr. Egan doesn't know what he's missing.
